JUAN S. MALAGON

Juan is a skilled composer, arranger, flutist, & producer from Colombia. His performance, writing & production style varies from traditional to contemporary genres as well with an interest in Colombian and Latin American popular & contemporary rhythms.

Currently, Juan is working as a composer and arranger for Tibasosa's government, writing music for the different ensembles of the Department of Culture and Youth of the Mayor's Office of Tibasosa - Boyacá - Colombia. Juan is also a session-flutist and piccolo player.

BIOGRAPHY

Was born and raised in Paipa, Boyacá, Colombia. Juan Malagon starts his musical adventure thanks to his father and his family. Influenced by the symphonic sound Juan starts with flute as his principal instrument. In 2018 gets the degree in classical flute performance from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. ​

Juan has taken flute classes with a great variety of professors around the world such as Felipe García (COL), Cecilia Piehl (ARG), Sheryl Cohen (USA), Sarpay Özçagatay (TUR), Wendy Rolfe (USA), among many others.

In 2020, Juan starts the journey at Berklee College of Music where in 2023 he gets the BA in the field of Contemporary Writing and Production with a "Summa Cum Laude" recognition.

At Berklee, Juan took classes with writing, production & theory professors such as Joe Carrier (USA), Tsunenori "Lee" Abe (JPN), Manuel Kaufmann (CH), Andrea Pejrolo (ITA), Roy Studmire (USA), among many others.

Juan has been working lately on compositions, arrangements & adaptations for wind ensembles in Colombia, from symphonic  pieces to Colombian and latin music styles.
